Working Smarter/ Aiming Higher: Committee on Efficiency & Entrepreneurship
Working Groups of the Steering Committee
The Steering Committee on Efficiency and Entrepreneurship has established working groups in seven key areas. Composed of faculty and staff from academic and administrative units across the three campuses, these groups will report their findings and recommendations to the Steering Committee.

Academic Efficiency
Develops recommendations to improve academic practices and policies across the three campuses in such areas as curriculum, online education, academic compensation, space allocation, course scheduling, continuing education, research incentives, and academic practices and protocols.

Chairs: Michael Beals, Vice Dean for Undergraduate Education, School of Arts and Sciences; and Joseph P. Seneca, University Professor, Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy

Academic Entrepreneurship
Performs a comprehensive examination of ways to enhance the major components of academic entrepreneurialism, including such opportunities as federal research support, executive education, fee-for-service programs, technology transfer, partnerships with the business sector, and private giving.

Chairs: Marc Holzer, Dean, School of Public Affairs and Administration; and Mitchell P. Koza, Dean, School of Business–Camden

Business Processes and Organizational Structure
Focuses on such areas as replacing paper processes with technological solutions, reviewing current organizational structures, clustering support services, and standardizing and sharing desktop and other office equipment.

Chairs: Sandra L. Russell, Associate Vice President for Human Resources; and Edmund Scheer, Associate Dean for Administration and Director of Financial Management and Computing, Rutgers College

Energy Policy, Conservation, and Sustainability
Develops an energy consumption policy and evaluates ways to implement cost savings and effective practices in the usage of the university’s energy sources, including oil, gas, electricity, and water use. Specific initiatives include using renewable energy sources and implementing conservation and sustainability efforts.

Chairs: Gene A. Vincenti, Executive Vice Provost for Administration, Newark; and Anthony Calcado, Vice President for Facilities and Capital Planning

Marketing
Looks at a number of issues and opportunities, beginning with an evaluation of how the university is handling sponsorships and endorsements.

Chairs: Kim Manning, Vice President for University Relations; Robert Mulcahy, Director, Intercollegiate Athletics; and Courtney McAnuff, Vice President for Enrollment Management

Planning and Real Estate Development
Develops principles for real estate development at the university and considers how the real estate function at Rutgers should be organized. Activities include benchmarking best practices at peer institutions as well as assessing and recommending revenue-enhancing real estate projects.

Chairs: Dorothea Berkhout, Associate Dean, Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy; and Debra McNally, Manager of Real Estate Planning

Purchasing
Identifies ways to reduce expenditures through analyzing, developing, and consolidating universitywide contracts.
